Welcome to my galleries. I live in northern California about an hour south of San Francisco and 20 minutes north of Santa Cruz. This is my Fourth year in the daily community. I've learned a lot and still have a lot to learn! Thanks for stopping by.

6.27.2011. We found these wonderful windmills overlooking the nice little town of Consuegra, Spain. There are 11 of them sprinkled here along with a small castle that was closed :( While they are not the ones that Don Quixote did battle with, they are the same types.
The funniest thing was that one of the windmills is a little tourist shop and we stopped there first to get a cold drink. The shopkeeper told us we could climb the stairs and look out, so up we marched, and as we climbed he loudly sang

4.8.10. Inside a reconstructed Kiva.

25 miles southeast of Santa Fe is the archeological site of Pecos Pueblo. Their peak of power and influences spanned 1450 to 1550.

Climb down the ladder into this reconstructed kiva, a place where rituals were performed to insure the well-being of the Pueblo people. Various kiva societies conducted different kinds of ceremonies...to increase game, insure a successful hunt or harvest, or to cure the sick. Rows of loom anchors (twig loops imbedded in kiva floors) show that kivas were also workrooms, where men wove the kilts and sashes worn by dancers. Pecos Pueblo has over 20 kivas.

3.30.2011. Tulip Lanterns
First of all I want to thank everyone for your nice comments on my spring picture yesterday, I'm glad it brought you so much joy.
Secondly, I was on my way home from the pharmacy and not feeling all that cheerful when I drove by our neighborhood tulip yard and the sun was SINGING! And the car seemed to stop on its own and suddenly my camera was peeking it's little head out of my bag and there I was sitting in their grass---that's the grass of the tulip people! and there was just no stopping me because I had to have this picture, just had to have it.

3.31.2011. Two pictures inspired this shot. After seeing Patti's (bay island photography) shot of the orange slice in sparkling water and seeing a student's picture of pencils in bubbles I thought I might try my own version. So what you're seeing is colored pencils in a glass of tonic water (no gin) :) taken outside, not cropped. When I got it on my computer, I liked it but decided to try it upside down, and I thought that added more interest.

I'm completely humbled by your comments on my shot of the red tulips. I'll tell you honestly that with some of my pictures, no one is more surprised than me at how they come out:) Thank you so much for taking the time.

4.26.2012. Bearded Iris - They are such show offs!

What a fun day yesterday! Thanks for such great comments, not only on mine, but on everyone's!

And a huge thanks to Kim for encouraging many of us to step out side or our boxes!

Since I was at work yesterday (as always) I didn't get all of my comments done so decided I'd go back through and do thumbs up. I was clicking through enjoying the pictures again and when I came to Johns (johnloguk) (jp.bennett@ntlworld.com) there were two red thumbs down, I tried again, two red thumbs, I started to take a screen shot and as soon as I started that the thumb tool went to one green and one red. It was the craziest thing I've ever observed in Smumug. I posted it on the forum and wrote the description to Andy, and of course emailed John right away.

Has anyone else seen this? I just think it's so strange that John has had all these issues with losing pictures and then this really random thing with the thumbs happens as well.
I do hope that when we see things like this that people post it on the forum.

5.27.2011. Dashing Daisies Dancing in the Wind.

9.11.10. This is a macro of our goldfish Fred's scales! Actually he's Laura's, she got him about 8 years ago, he went to college with her 6 years ago, but only stayed a couple of years then came home to stay. He's about 8 inches long and is the only goldfish we've had that lasted more then a few weeks. His tank is in my study and I've grown quite fond of him. He jumps and blows loud burpy bubbles when he wants food. So silly!

For Donna, et.al. I took a lot of pictures to get this and set my little camera on a lot of settings! I just kept shooting at the exact time he swam by. The sun was coming in the window when I started and he was really lit up at first but as the sun rose Fred dimmed! I used the flash a few times, but I was afraid it hurt his eyes..so this shot could have been with the flash or it could have been in the sun at the beginning of my shoots. I DID crop to get the most scales in the frame :)

Thank you all so much for liking it, I surprised myself on this one that's for sure.

4.3.2011. Regarding Refslund's comment. I believe that Smugmug makes chages based on how many people write in about a particular issue. Perjhaps if everyone wrote in (I already did this morning) and request that thumbs down not be anonymous these shenanigans would stop. Please write to Smugmug Help and make your voice heard.

9.3.2012. Fog on the Golden Gate Bridge
We took a long bike ride north of the city this morning. The bridge was fogged in going north and had more fog going south at the end of our day. We had great weather almost as soon as we left the bridge and dipped into Sausalito.

6.10.2011. Girls on the go in Toledo.
Our last night in Toledo, we leave in the morning for Cordoba. Toledo is gorgeous and we've enjoyed castles, the cathedral and a modern art gallery, which was such a terrific respite for us. We just got back from a late night dinner and I wanted to post this shot of a typical Toledo street. I really loved being able to get the Cathedral in the background.
